Crews In Control

Duke Crews is hot right now. Last week he helped Boo Williams capture the coveted Peach Jam title, now he's fielding calls from Division I head coaches.

First there was a very good Nike Camp performance. Then, Duke Crews played an integral role in Boo Williams' Peach Jam victory. With half the summer over, Crews likes how things have gone thus far.

"I think the first two weeks went great," Crews said. "Our team played well, I played well and the first part of the summer evaluation period was great for me."

The 6-foot-6 ½ power forward out of Hampton (Va.) Bethel has all kinds of scholarship offers. When we chatted with him on Monday evening, Crews had just gotten off the phone with Wake Forest head coach Skip Prosser. He's had conversations with Dave Leitao, Bob Huggins, Norm Roberts and Rick Barnes; they've all offered.

On Tuesday, Crews is expecting a call from UNC coach Roy Williams. "The way Coach Williams is talking to me, it's like he loves me," Crews said. "I talked to him a while back and I talked to Coach Robinson and he's said what Coach Williams is telling him."

Illinois, Xavier, St. John's, Georgetown, Wake Forest, Georgia Tech, Florida, Maryland, Virginia, Texas and Oklahoma State have offered Crews thus far.

Crews will sort through everything after the summer ends. He's got a trip to the Showcase in Orlando planned and Boo Williams takes aim at the AAU National title to end the month.

"I'll break it down after I get finished with the evaluation period," Crews said. "I'll look at what people have, what they've got going and see where I'll be needed the most. I'll go from there."
