Mitchell Waiting On Heels

Apparently, all North Carolina coaches have to do is ask and Neptune (Fla.) Fletcher offensive lineman Zach Mitchell will oblige them with a verbal commitment. He has offers from Georgia Tech and Illinois, and also likes South Carolina. But he says he'll wait for a call from the Tar Heels.

"If they offered me today I would probably commit there," the 6-foot-4, 305-pounder said on Thursday.

Mitchell said the UNC coaches told him following camp last weekend, that if they decide to offer, they will let him know by the second game of Fletcher's football season.

Then, said Mitchell, he'll make a final decision "halfway through the season."

"I like UNC and South Carolina likes me right now," he said. "But I've heard South Carolina is going to go on probation."

While in Chapel Hill, Mitchell spent a good deal of time with UNC offensive line coach Hal Hunter, as well as recruiting coordinator Brad Lawing and head coach John Bunting.

"I liked that a lot," Mitchell said. "The camp started one-on-one with Coach Hunter, then we worked together with about 12 to 15 O-Linemen. We worked on individual stuff like run and pass blocking. Then we worked against the defense.

"Everything about it I liked, and I could not find anything about it I didn't like."

He has also been to Auburn, Tennessee and South Carolina, will not attend any more camps.

Mitchell said he runs the 40-yard dash in 5.5 seconds, and that the Tar Heel coaches are recruiting him as a guard/center.
