Reed Commits To North Carolina

UNC targeted three prospects at Waldorf (Md.) Westlake High School this year. According to head coach Dominic Zaccarelli, the Tar Heels picked up their second commitment this morning from the school.

"Aaris Reed committed to North Carolina this morning," says Coach Zaccarelli. "Basically he felt real comfortable with the coaching staff like Coach Powell, the running back coach there, and he liked the setting. He had a lot of options, but he felt more comfortable at North Carolina."

Reed joins Westlake defensive end Darius Powell on the North Carolina commitment list. Fellow running back Pha' Terrell Washington also made a commitment, though he is sticking with the home state Maryland Terrapins.

According to Zaccarelli, Reed thought about committing early but was unsure if he would end up pulling the trigger.

"We had talked about it earlier, and it actually went a little longer than he wanted. It was an unusual class that they all wanted to get it over with. I have had other high-profile kids that wanted to wait as late as they could go."

While Powell already made his choice, Zaccerelli is not sold on that being a big part of the final decision.

"I think a little bit, but not entirely. North Carolina was on his radar before they offered, that was something he had talked about. Darius was looking up north before North Carolina came into the picture and he fell in love with it, too.

"Having a teammate there might have had an effect on his decision, but North Carolina was on his radar before that."
