Copeland Nearing UNC Admission

Word on 2005 Winston-Salem (N.C.) Reynolds post player Mike Copeland and his academic eligibility status for potential enrollment at North Carolina should become clear later this month, his father told Inside Carolina on Thursday.

Copeland has been attending summer school for two sessions. He's completed the first one with a favorable outcome, and he winds up classes for the second one this week.

"He's still working on a course," said Mike Copeland Sr. "He finished one and got a 'B;' so that's looking good for us."

Copeland says he stays in frequent contact with UNC's academic advisor, who has told him the final decision should follow in a couple of weeks.

"He checks with me to see how Mike is doing, and calculating everything," said Copeland. "We feel like by Aug. 19, everything will have gone through the clearinghouse. And, they'll be saying he's eligible and things like that."

Copeland, who is 6-8, 235 pounds, averaged nearly a double-double (17.8 points, 9.1 rebounds) per outing in his senior campaign, after which he earned Player of the Year honors for the Central Piedmont 4A Conference, and was selected to the All-Northwest N.C. team. Copeland was named to the All-State Second Team by two separate outlets - the Associated Press and NCPrepReport.com.
