Sources close to the UNC football team indicate that QB Darian Durant has asked for and received permission to return to the football team.

According to our sources, Durant approached the coaching staff about returning to the UNC football program. Apparently, the coaching staff allowed the UNC football players to vote on the issue, and there was an unanimous vote in favor of Durant's return.

Durant established single-season freshman records last season for touchdown passes (17), completions (142), passing yards (1,843) and total offense (1,1971). He was named the ACC Rookie of the Week six times. His 17 touchdown passes where the third highest by a freshman in ACC history.

Durant is ranked in the top ten in single-season marks at UNC for completion percentage (.637), efficiency rating (2nd, 149.290, TD passes (3rd, 17), completions (T7th), passing yards (6th, 1,843), and total offense (5th, 1,971).

He finished ranked second in the ACC in passing efficiency and 12th in the nation.
