Stepheson Settling In With Schools

Big man Alex Stepheson has a short term goal: trim his list of seven schools down to five by the end of August. So far, we know of three schools that are guaranteed official visits.

With the July period having ended last week, it's time for America's finest recruits to get serious about their college lists. Alex Stepheson, a big man out of Harvard-Westlake in California, is one guy a lot of schools covet.

For Stepheson, it's been a long and successful summer.

"I would say the summer was fun," Stepheson said. "I was trying to stay aggressive the whole summer and play hard. I tried to be the hardest worker, working on my game. I just tried every possession, especially at camp and tournaments. I tried to get it off the glass or run the hardest down the court."

Well, seven schools noticed and have made firm scholarship offers to him. Connecticut, North Carolina, Arizona, UCLA, Georgia Tech, Washington and Wake Forest comprise his current list.

Stepheson's goal for the month? "We're going to trim it down by the end of August to five schools. We'll take all five visits in September or October."

At this point, three schools can pretty much count on him visiting their campus: UConn, North Carolina and Arizona. That leaves two official visits up for grabs.

Meanwhile, in the midst of the process, Stepheson continues to work on his game, intent on getting better.

"I'm working on my post game. I'm lifting weights trying to get stronger in the post so I can stand my position in the post."
