The North Carolina staff had told the Charlotte native that there was a spot for him on the Tar Heels roster as a walk-on if he chose to attend UNC.
"I talked to Coach Doherty and Coach Wojcik and those guys, and they have offered me a spot on the team as a walk-on," Miller said in an interview with IC in late February. "It's a good opportunity to be a part of something special."
Miller, a 5-11 point guard at New Hampton (NH) Prep, had received scholarship offers from James Madison, UNC-Greensboro, Wofford, Furman and American University, and was also strongly considering Dartmouth.
"Going to a school like Carolina, the positive is being a part of something really special, a big-time program, playing in the Dean Dome, and playing in the ACC," he said in the Feb. interview. "Going to a lesser school, like a mid-major or a low-major division one school, I could definitely walk in and play from the beginning and have a bigger role, more of a leadership role, so that's just something that I have to sort out."
