UNC Fans "Meet The Heels"

CHAPEL HILL, N.C.--Head coach John Bunting and the UNC football team welcomed Tar Heel fans on to the field at Kenan Stadium Saturday afternoon for "Meet The Heels," and several thousand fans took the opportunity to get autographs and photographs despite temperatures in the mid-90's.

After long-time "Voice of the Tar Heels" Woody Durham introduced each member of the team to those in attendance, the players tossed t-shirts into the crowd and proceeded to their position grouping on the field.

Senior quarterback Matt Baker may have had the longest line of fans waiting for an autograph, but no player on the field had a smile on his face larger than that of one of the smallest players on the field, senior receiver Jarwarski Pollock.

"It's great to have the fans come out and support us, even though its 95 degrees out here," Pollock said. "It's great for them to come out and let us know that they are behind us."

"We get a chance to give back to the fans and thank them for coming," said senior linebacker Doug Justice. "We get to talk to them in person because we don't get to see them up close from the field [on game days]. To get out here and say 'Hello' and meet them is fun."

After a period of 45 minutes, the horn blew and players were called back into the Kenan Football Center to proceed with preparation for the coming football season, but Bunting vowed to remain on the field until the last Tar Heel fan in line who wanted an autograph or a photo got one.

"I'm having a great time!" Bunting exclaimed with sweat running down his face, the sun beating down, and a long line of fans stretching out in the distance. "We have a great fan base. They are all out here, and we are having a good time."
