Ginyard Sidelined; Copeland Cleared

One UNC freshman will be unable to play this weekend in the Bahamas, while another will be a last-minute addition.

According to sources close to the situation, Marcus Ginyard, a 6-5 wing from Arlington (Va.) Bishop O'Connell, has suffered a broken left wrist. The injury is believed to have occurred while playing pick-up in late July and will keep him out of action this weekend. Ginyard's wrist will be further evaluated on Tuesday and a decision will be made then regarding possible surgery. He is expected to be sidelined for a considerable length of time, but program sources are optimistic that he'll be able to return in time for the start of basketball practice in mid-October.

UNC received word late Thursday that Michael Copeland, a 6-8 forward from Winston-Salem (N.C.) Reynolds, has been officially cleared by the NCAA Clearinghouse, after enrolling last week, a UNC spokesperson confirmed. He will now be able to practice and travel with the team.
