Tate, Edwards Named ACC Players Of The Week

Chapel Hill, N.C. ----- North Carolina linebacker Larry Edwards and kick returner Brandon Tate have been selected as Atlantic Coast Conference Players of the Week for their performances in Carolina's 31-17 victory over Utah.

An outside linebacker from Tampa, Fla., Edwards had a team-high 12 tackles and was named the league's Defensive Back Player of the Week (honor goes to an outside linebacker or defensive back). Edwards had eight solo stops to go along with four assisted tackles and three tackles for losses. Edwards also forced a fumble on the afternoon. He is second on the team with 30 tackles and has a team-high six tackles for losses.

Tate racked up 149 yards on three kickoff returns in the win over the Utes to earn ACC Specialist of the Week honors. The freshman from Burlington, N.C., ran back the game's opening kickoff for a 96-yard touchdown, becoming the first UNC player to accomplish that feat since 2003. Tate later added kickoff returns of 38 and 15 yards, and returned one punt for three yards.
