Copeland Out 2-4 Weeks

CHAPEL HILL -- University of North Carolina men's basketball freshman Mike Copeland will be sidelined for two to four weeks after undergoing arthroscopic surgery on his right knee Sunday.

Copeland, a 6-7 forward from Winston-Salem, tore the right medial meniscus (cartilage) in the latter moments of Friday evening's intra-squad scrimmage.

The surgery was performed Sunday at UNC Hospitals by Director of Sports Medicine Dr. Tim Taft.

"I hate it for Mike because he was so diligent this past summer in doing what he had to do to join our basketball program," says head coach Roy Williams.

The injury leaves the Tar Heels with just nine scholarship players to practice. Senior center Damion Grant announced several weeks ago that he would be unable to play this year due to chronic injuries.
