On last year's win over Miami:
"It certainly was in my top three or five - having played in a Super Bowl and coached in a Super Bowl, played in USFL championship games, coached in a USFL championship game, beating Florida State my first year here. But I think in light of where we came from last year after the Utah debacle and the bye week to come up and play that kind of game with that kind of emotion and that kind of poise was really special in this stadium in front of our fans. Of course we're playing in their place now, totally different story. I won't ever forget that game, not only because of the (Connor Barth) kick and the way the defense rebounded from Utah, but I'll never forget Darian Durant and the way he kept his poise throughout the entire game."
On the team's ability to rebound after losses:
"It's not me, it's the players. It's the leadership of the team. It's this coaching staff, which is the best one that I've had. I think they are able to refocus well. And we are a more talented group now in some ways. I think despite the fact that we had that horrendous loss at Louisville they never lost their confidence."
On facing the top-ranked Miami defense:
"Turnover margin usually plays a role in every football game that you play, so that will be an emphasis. And penalties. We've had some penalty issues this year. I'm hopeful that they eventually will go away. I know these kids are trying. We do what we can to try to control that and it's certainly an emphasis. We were good at it last year. We seem to be getting better at times and then we have some problems with it."
On the improved play of the secondary:
"I thought the entire secondary played their best game (against Virginia). That was important and it'll be equally important this week. It will be a challenge to see if we can play that well two weeks in a row. Trimane Goddard had his first start and played extremely well. Cedrick Holt is having a really fine senior season. I think Kareen Taylor did some good things for us. Quinton Person stepped in for Jacoby (Watkins) against Utah and was unbelievable in that game. He's a big-time competer. He's kind of like Jawarski Pollock. He's short in stature but big in heart."
On improving the offense:
"(Matt Baker) has to play better than he did the other day and he knows that. That was probably his first game where he didn't see the field as well as he needed to. Our offensive line needs to continue to improve. It played its best half of football the first half. But we need to be able to do that for a full game. They are a group of players that are pretty talented and have been playing together. Steven Bell is playing his best football. I think that is really significant how well he's playing. (Brian) Chacos was ACC Lineman of the Week. That's key. Mike Mason didn't have a catch the other day. We need to get the ball in his hands."
