Doherty spoke of expectations for next season.
"I expect improvement," he said. "On paper -- knock on wood -- if everyone is healthy and stays together, the year after next we could have things back to normal in Chapel Hill. Next year will be a growing year. We'll hit some bumps in the road, but I think at the end of the year we could be a pretty darn good basketball team.''
Bunting noted that the football team will also rely on its developing youth.
"We've got a lot of work to do. No doubt about it. Our defense came through the spring improved. A lot of team speed showed up in the spring game. Our guys can run around and make plays ... I think we've got a bunch of younger players who have done a lot of improving. They're going to make some mistakes. But as they get experience I think you'll see us become a pretty good football team."
