Doherty scouts Calif. forward

Matt Doherty was in Carson, Calif. on Monday to watch Ekene Ibekwe.

"Yeah they came," the 6-9, 210-pound forward confirmed to IC. "Carolina is certainly still recruiting me. I don't have an offer from them, but I feel like they really want me and if I wanted to come, that I could."

Ibekwe's biggest asset is his versatility, as he possesses both low post and perimeter skills on both ends of the court.

"I feel that I can play inside and outside. Block some shots. Shoot the jumper pretty well and I run the floor."

Ibekwe was in Houston last weekend with his California Select squad for the Kingwood Classic.

"I thought I played well in Texas -- pretty well," he said.'s Rob Harrington evaluated Ibekwe in Houston: "[He] is another long and talented forward from Select. He played inconsistently in Houston, but he has a lot of physical tools. Ekene knocks down jumpers from the foul line, has the athleticism to elevate for rebounds and blocked shots, and is generally fluid and quick to loose balls. He needs to get stronger in order to finish better inside, as well as making sure that he's always a factor."

Ibekwe was not sure as to a timetable for his decision. As for his school list, it wasn't a complete list, but he mentioned UNC, Arizona, Kansas and Maryland.

"I don't have a leader at this time, not at all," he added.

He will head to Arizona this coming weekend on an official visit. He plans on making an official trip to Chapel Hill in the fall.
