Rose Comes Up Short Vs. Oak Hill

BENTON, Ky. -- It was supposed to be Derrick Rose versus Tywon Lawson. But that match up never materialized, because Lawson didn't play.

The 5-foot-11 North Carolina signee violated school rules and will likely be suspended for more games.

However, Rose did play against Oak Hill and while he had a rough first half, the 6-foot-3 guard really turned it on as the game continued.

Rose was troubled by three quick fouls in the first half, and his time was limited. The 5th ranked player in the class of 2007 was boosted by an alley-oop dunk that had everyone in the Marshall County gym on their feet.

From that play on Rose seemed a bit more aggressive, taking it to the basket hard but he still had trouble finishing. He continued to take it to the tin more and really started finishing.

The Simeon High School product is very quick on his feet, but struggled with getting his shot off in the first quarter. He was blocked at least four times in that period mostly right around the basket.

One thing that really stuck out is the amount of contact he takes at the basket. When he drives he draws contact and has a knack for getting to the free throw line. Rose also displayed his incredible ball handling skills. He can get through amazingly small seams and is as quick as they come with the ball.

Rose did struggle with turnovers against Oak Hill and turned it over six times. Three of which were in the ever so critical fourth quarter. Regardless of the turnovers he kept Simeon in the game and finished with 20 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists.

Simeon lost to the always talented Oak Hill by a score of 63-57.
