Jolly Wins 2-AA Title, Named MVP

Future Tar Heel Tavorris Jolly had a superb all-around game Saturday at Kenan Stadium to lead Shelby to a 26-18 win over Reidsville in the North Carolina 2-AA championship game.

After losing in the title game a year ago, Jolly was on a mission to lead his team to the championship.

"We left Durham with a bad taste in our mouths [last year]," Jolly said postgame. "I kept telling the guys all season, 'Play hard. If we keep playing hard, we'll get back to where we were last year.'"

And Jolly did quite a bit by himself. On defense, he intercepted the second Reidsville play of the game, made nine tackles and broke up three passes. On offense, he ran for 87 yards on 22 carries, including a two-yard touchdown.

For that performance on both sides of the ball, he was named the game's Most Valuable Player.
