Shrine Bowl: Burney Excited To Join

SPARTANBURG, S.C. --- A late addition to the Shrine Bowl roster came early Monday morning when Kendric Burney, a defensive back from Jacksonville, N.C., woke up to some good news.

"I got the phone call [Simdau] morning at 7:00," said Burney. "They called Coach Padgett, he called me, I said 'Yeah I would love to come', so we made the arrangements to get down here."

Burney quickly packed his bags nd made the six-hour trip from Jacksonville to Spartanburg, S.C. in a little less time than expected. Arriving at three in the afternoon, Burney then found out he replaced fellow North Carolina commitment Tarvorris Jolly.

"I just found out when I got here that it was him that got hurt," Burney said. "I will probably give him a call later on and see how he's doing, and I hope everything works out."

As for his expectations for the week, Burney hopes to make a name for himself and start in the game, but he wants to let the game just come to him against the top players from North Carolina in practice.

"I'm coming in and hope to be myself, try to take a spot, and whatever happens, happens."
