Vaughn Makes ACC Trip

Julian Vaughn made the most of his 48-hour stint in The Triangle this past weekend, catching the Tar Heels' comeback victory against NC State on Saturday and then watching Duke knock off Wake Forest on the road the following night.

"It worked out well," said the South Lakes (Va.) 6-foot-9 junior power forward. "All four of them are recruiting me."

However, as for the Tar Heels, they have yet to extend a scholarship offer.

"Not yet," Vaughn said of the offer. "Coach [Steve] Robinson wants to see me play a couple more times and Coach [Roy] Williams wants to come up, also, but his back is hurting him so he hasn't been able to come up yet."

Vaughn said that both UNC and Wake Forest called him in an effort to get the coveted big man to take the trip.

Vaughn made his way home at about 2 a.m. on Monday morning and then went out and put up 15 points and 13 rebounds in a victory that night against W.T. Woodson.

South Lakes, which struggled early, has won six straight games to improve to 8-4 overall and 5-0 in district play.

"We started off slow, but I think we'll be all right now," Vaughn said. "Our goal is to go undefeated in district play."

Vaughn said that his game will begin to change for the remainder of the season. Instead of stepping out on the perimeter, Vaughn will spend nearly all of his time scoring in the paint and from mid-range.

"I'm going to try and be more of a post presence," he said.
