Tar Heels Making A Run At Texas OL

This weekend the Tar Heels attempted to add a second Texas native to its 2006 recruiting class.

Alan Pelc traveled from Pearland, Texas to take an official visit to Chapel Hill.

"He has narrowed it down to Houston and North Carolina," said Pearland High School head football coach Tony Heath.

Pelc is scheduled to take an official visit to Houston next weekend and then make his final decision. He actually committed to Houston last summer, before softening that commitment and deciding to visit Carolina.

UNC offensive line coach Hal Hunter, who also recruited UNC pledge Trevor Stuart out of Texas, loves the upside of Pelc's 6-foot-7, 300-pound frame for offensive tackle.

"They think he has tremendous potential," said Heath. "Coach [Hal] Hunter does everything first class. Other coaches should take ‘Recruiting 101' from him."

Prior to the UNC visit, Pelc had already felt a connection with Coach Hunter and includes that among the things he already likes about UNC.

"He likes the opportunity of playing in the ACC," said Heath. "He likes the size of the student population, the academics of the school, and he just felt a connection with the coaches."

Pelc's host on his visit was North Carolina sophomore -- and Houston, Texas native -- Ben Lemming.

A converted basketball player, Pelc has only played two years of organized football.
