Watson Narrows List

This past weekend, North Carolina had its biggest official visits weekend of the recruiting season. Missing among the expected visitors was DeKoda Watson, who elected to take an official visit to Florida State instead.

"I have eliminated [North Carolina]," said Watson. "I think North Carolina is a great program, but I couldn't see myself playing there. Basically, I wanted to make it a little bit easier on the recruiting process [by eliminating them]."

Despite his decision to cut the Tar Heels from contention, the staff has no hard feelings towards Watson.

"I called them the day that I eliminated them – last weekend," said Watson. "They were supportive of my decision. They understood that I was doing what's best for me. They wished me luck on the rest of the recruiting process."

Watson, a 6-foot-2 210-pound defensive end from Aiken (S.C.) South, officially visited South Carolina prior to his trip to Tallahassee. This weekend Watson will head to Tennessee followed by a trip to Virginia the last weekend of the month to complete his official visits schedule.

North Carolina was one of the first Division I-A schools to extend Watson a scholarship offer over the summer.
