Overseas Tar Heel Pros playoff update

Former Tar Heels Derrick Phelps and Henrik Rodl, playing in Germany for ALBA Berlin, have claimed another German League championship.

The 2002 title, ALBA Berlin's 6th in a row, was clinched with a 69-68 overtime win over RheinEnergy Cologne as Phelps contributed nine points and Rodl added four points. The victory ended the best-of-five series in a three-game sweep and brought the team playoff record to a perfect 9-0.

Phelps was with ALBA last year and now has 2 German League titles. Rodl has been with ALBA Berlin since 1996-97 and has been on hand for the entire six-year championship run.

For Ed Cota to be part of a championship season his team, Oostende of the Belgium Basketball League (Division 1), must notch one more victory as they hold a 2-1 lead over Charleroi.

Game 4 of the Oostende-Charleroi best-of-five series is set for May 28 at Charleroi. If game No. 5 is necessary it will be played at Oostende. UNC's Kevin Salvadori is a member of Charleroi, but he has been sidelined for the series so far due to a lower back injury.

Carolina's Ademola Okulaja, now of F.C. Barcelona (Spain-ACB), has moved into his league's semifinals after winning the quarterfinal round 3-1.

Ademola has been troubled with left knee tendinitis since the end of the regular season and has missed the last three playoff games.

Barcelona's best-of-five semifinal series against Tau Ceramica begins on May 30.
