N.C. Junior DE Expects Offer

Tydreke Powell, one of the top in-state 2007 targets, currently claims scholarship offers from N.C. State and East Carolina. Powell believes he's close to adding a third in-state school to his offers list.

"I haven't talked to [North] Carolina lately, but hopefully when I talk to them they'll offer," said Powell. "I haven't talked to them in several months, but once I talk to them I think they'll offer."

Powell, a 6-foot-4 292-pound defensive end from Ahoskie (N.C.) Hertford County, made most of his contact with the Tar Heels' coaching staff during unofficial visits to Chapel Hill last fall.

This offseason, Powell plans to include another trip to Chapel Hill into his schedule. He already has also penciled in to attend junior days at both East Carolina and N.C. State, while camping this summer at Miami, Virginia, Virginia Tech, and Clemson.

While still too early to predict the destination of Powell's Letter of Intent next February, it's beginning to look like an in-state battle between N.C. State and UNC, Powell's current co-leaders.

"I like [North] Carolina because I've been watching them since I was little," said Powell. "I also like Julius Peppers."

Last season, Powell was the defensive player opposing offenses ran away from. Regardless, Powell managed to be among the state leaders in sacks with eleven.
