Reid Named To All-America Squad

Chapel Hill, N.C. ----- University of North Carolina free safety Dexter Reid has been named a preseason second-team All-America by The Sporting News. Reid, a 6-0, 187-pound junior from Norfolk, Va., is Carolina's top returning tackler.

Last season, Reid had 99 tackles, including 67 solo stops and 32 assists. He had five tackles for loss, two sacks for 19 yards, five pass break ups, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery and led Carolina's defensive backs with two interceptions. His 67-yard inteception return for a touchdown against Virginia was the 10th-longest in school history and helped seal Carolina's 31-24 victory over the Cavaliers.

Reid is one of three returning starters to a Carolina defense that led the ACC and was 15th in the country in total defense in 2001.
