Powell Gets The UNC Offer

Earlier this week, Tydreke Powell predicted a North Carolina scholarship offer was in his future. That prediction became reality Wednesday when Powell checked his mail.

"[North] Carolina offered me a full ride, I got the letter today," said Powell. "It feels good."

Powell, a 6-foot-3, 283-pound defensive end from Ahoskie (N.C.) Hertford County, isn't considering a verbal commitment right now, but the Tar Heels are in the lead.

"Yes [this offer makes UNC my favorite]," said Powell. "Carolina will always be the favorite for me, because I've always wanted to follow Julius Peppers. I love Julius Peppers – he's my role model."

Earlier in the week, Powell said NC State shared the favorite role with the Tar Heels. Although that has now slightly changed, Powell, who also owns offers from East Carolina and N.C. State, says his recruitment is far from over.

Powell plans to attend NC State's junior day on February 25th. Additionally, Powell hopes to fit one of the Tar Heels' junior days into his schedule once he's informed of their dates.

Currently, Powell is concentrating on his junior basketball season where he plays center for Hertford County, which presently owns a 19-3 record.

Powell is ranked No. 7 in Scout.com's pre-combine N.C. Junior Top 10 list.
