Hansbrough Wins Ninth ACC ROW

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- After averaging 19.0 points and 6.0 rebounds in a pair of 24-point conference victories, North Carolina's Tyler Hansbrough has been selected ACC Rookie of the Week.

In earning the award for the ninth time this season, the Poplar Bluff, Mo., freshman opened the week with a 17-point, five-rebound performance in a 95-71 win over 15th-ranked NC State in Raleigh Wednesday. Four nights later, the 6-9, 235-pound forward had a game-high 21 points and seven rebounds as the Tar Heels ran their win streak to five in a row with an 81-57 win over visiting Maryland.

Hansbrough has been named the ACC Rookie of the Week a conference-high nine times this season, including seven of the last nine weeks. He has scored 14 points or more in 20 consecutive games and 24 of 25 contests this season.

Hansbrough leads the ACC in free throw attempts per game at 8.28. Through 25 games, he leads Carolina and all ACC freshmen in scoring (18.9 ppg) and rebounding (7.5 rpg). His scoring average is tied as the fourth-best by a freshman in ACC history.

Hansbrough's field goal percentage of 58.9 is first on the squad and third in the ACC. He is second overall in the ACC in scoring. Hansbrough's 207 trips to the free throw line are almost double the total of any other Tar Heel (Reyshawn Terry is second with 107).
