UNC Still Powell's Leader

As soon as Tydreke Powell arrived at Chapel Hill for North Carolina's junior day, the 6-foot-3 280-pound defensive tackle was given the red carpet treatment.

"When I got there yesterday, I signed my name, and Lamarcus [Jenkins] went with the defensive linemen, and I hung out with Coach [Ken] Browning the whole day – it was great," said Powell. "I toured the campus, met players, and met Coach [John] Bunting and the rest of the coaching staff."

Powell, who was joined by his Ahoskie (N.C.) Hertford County teammates Jenkins and Danny Dembry, also observed the Tar Heels' spring practice.

"[I liked] how they practiced and how hard they practiced and how fun the coaches are [during practice]," said Powell.

Despite the constant flow of scholarship offers – Auburn, East Carolina, Florida State, Georgia Tech, N.C. State, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, and Virginia Tech -- Powell still claims the Tar Heels are the team to beat.

"I like UNC so much because it's the only school I've been to," said Powell. "Once I get to other schools and tour their campus it could change. But, right now definitely Carolina's on top."

Next week Powell will begin his tour of other schools when he unofficially visits N.C. State. He is also trying to work in an unofficial trip to Auburn in the upcoming weeks.
