"They were going to go ahead and offer me a while ago, but things got mixed up because of their coaching changes."
Gray, a 6-foot-3 180-pound quarterback from Columbia (Mo.) Rock Bridge, also claims offers from Missouri, Kansas, Kansas State, N.C. State, and Florida.
The constant flow of new offers has made it difficult for Gray to name a true list of favorites, but nine schools currently have his attention.
"I don't have a [favorites list]," said Gray. "I've been getting a lot of offers recently and it's all kind of going full speed right now. I don't have a leader right now, but I'm definitely looking at all the schools that have offered me and some others, too. Besides the schools that have offered – I'm honestly looking into the six [offering] schools and I'm also looking at Iowa, Georgia, and Miami."
Although Gray has yet to visit Chapel Hill, he has heard nothing but positive things about the campus and is also excited to see the new Tar Heel offense in action.
"I've heard it's a really pretty campus in a nice area," said Gray. "They just got a new offensive coordinator from Fresno State, and I'm interested to see what they do this year. They're kind of a program on the rise."
Sometime in the spring Gray is planning an unofficial campus tour of the Triangle schools – UNC, N.C. State, and Duke. He has already attended Junior Days at Missouri, Iowa, and Kansas.
A three-year starter, Gray completed 135-of-233 passes (58%) for 2,169 yards and 25 touchdowns, with just 10 interceptions during his junior season. For his accomplishments, he was named to the all-conference and all-district teams.
