Opening remarks
"The defense got after it pretty well. We had some good runs by a number of people. Ronnie [McGill] ran it well at the beginning. I want to see some others. Justin Warren did some good things and Richie Rich did some good things. We ran the football well at times. And at other times we didn't. We pushed the pile at times.

Defensively, we pursued the ball very well; but there were very few missed tackles. We are far from a finished product.

The quarterbacks probably didn't have their best day today. They struggled some, but that's expected on occasion. They need to continue to get better."

On Nick Starcevic's return to practice
"We still have to find who is (number) one – that might be Nick. It's his first day of practice. We didn't expect him to be the best fullback to who has ever played the game. We didn't put him in a lot of positions to make a lot of plays and make a lot of blocks. There's been five or six individuals who have gotten that opportunity through the spring. This will give us an idea going into summer camp."

On potential help from the 2006 recruits
We are hoping guys like Tavares Brown and Aleric Mullins can impact, because we'll need them on our defensive line. Once again, we are playing Kentwan Balmer at end and inside, which is good for him and good for us. Hilee [Taylor] is playing real well since he's been back and I'm excited about that.

"On offense. I'm hoping one of the linebackers can play on special teams or possibly compete for a position on the depth chart.

"I'm committed to giving Johnny White and Anthony Elzy every single rep we can possibly give them to see if they can help us."
