NBPA: Ekene Ibekwe Spotlight

RICHMOND, VA. -- Is he a wing forward? Is he a power forward? The jury is out on those questions, but for now, Ekene Ibekwe is just one heck of a prospect.

"I've got two sides to my game," said the 6-9, 196-pound forward from Carson, Calif. "I can play in the post or be out on the perimeter. You can't just put me at one position. I'm the type of player that's got to be everywhere."

Inside Carolina's Clint Jackson notes that while Ibekwe's game isn't yet refined, he's got unlimited potential.

"I think I'm a bigger fan of Ekene Ibekwe than most folks are," Jackson said. "He's certainly far from polished. But that long body? The speed in which he bolts up and down the floor? His ability to shoot, handle and pass? And the shot-blocking? Whoa!! The kid has got all of the tools. He just need a dose of consistency and some coaching. He's trying to make the transition to the wing forward position though -- and he may be better as a power forward who can face up occasionally."

Ibekwe has already officially visited Arizona and plans to use officials on Maryland and North Carolina as well. USC, Kentucky and Kansas are candidates for the other two trips.

He said UNC coaches Matt Doherty and Doug Wojcik came to his school last month and spoke with his coach and his father.

"I'm going to visit them before the school year starts," Ibekwe said of the Tar Heels.
