Although one could pick from many of So-Cal's star players to list as a headliner, that honor probably goes to 6-9 -- and maybe nearing 6-10 -- big man Kevin Love. While it wasn't a vintage performance by the hoss from Oregon, he still showed enough to understand why many consider him to be the best big in the class of 2007.
He hit some pretty jumpers from 17 feet, tossed others around on the inside and threw a few of his trademark passes. But, there were also some bad moments, including a Christian Laettner-style stomping of an SYF Players head during a scrum that resulted in double technicals.
Afterwards, Love was anything but thrilled with his performance.
"I came in here today, it wasn't too fun with some of the stuff that went on," Love told Inside Carolina. "But, we came out here and got a win and that's all that really mattered to me, so it's all good."
Fresh off of a state championship, Love admitted that he had been looking forward to getting back out on the club circuit. A competitor of the fullest degree, he enjoys the elevated level of competition that the circuit offers.
"I'm just trying to get better out here day in and day out," said Love. "It's fun out here. We're real unselfish but we're just trying to build the chemistry right now."
On the recruiting front, Love reiterated that he's down to North Carolina and UCLA for his school choices. He and his family will sit down later in the summer to come up with a decision and while he wouldn't admit to leaning one way or another, he did explain what he likes about each school.
"UCLA, there's a lot of stuff I like about them. The guys that are already there right now and the coach," said Love. "They have so much going for them with how they use their big man and how they use their guards too."
As for what he likes about North Carolina?
"Carolina is very similar, Roy Williams he's a big man coach," said Love. "He really turns people out like Hansbrough and Sean May, that's what I like to see."
