Heels Making Strong Run at Big-Time RB

Although he won't officially narrow down his list of schools until this weekend, Brian Maddox admitted North Carolina is among the schools that will be making the cut.

"I really like North Carolina," said Maddox. "Coach [Andre] Powell is a great coach – he coached Tiki Barber and that's a big plus. I just like the atmosphere there at North Carolina. And I really like Coach [John] Bunting."

In addition to the Tar Heels, Maddox is currently favoring Florida, Florida State, Georgia Tech, N.C. State, and South Carolina.

Maddox will make his collegiate decision on May 28th, his birthday. Almost a week prior to that – May 20th – North Carolina will take one last crack at him when he unofficially visits Chapel Hill once again.

"I'm supposed to be hanging out with Ronnie McGill and Barrington Edwards," said Maddox. "I'm supposed to talk to the whole coaching staff. And I'm going to have an academic meeting."

During his first visit to Chapel Hill, the coaching staff laid out for him their plans if the 6-foot, 215-pound tailback were to become a Tar Heel.

"They are looking for me to come in right away," said Maddox. "They are telling me I'm the missing piece. They said they need a big time running back to come in with this class."

In addition to the members of his favorites list, Maddox also sports scholarship offers from Auburn, Clemson, Duke, Kentucky, Louisville, LSU, Maryland, Vanderbilt, and Virginia Tech.

A two-time all-conference selection, Maddox rushed 200 times for 1,328 yards and 26 touchdowns during his junior year at Anderson (S.C.) Hanna. He also added 740 yards and 17 touchdowns in receptions.
