"[If I had to choose today] North Carolina would probably get the nod right now," said Maddox. "They are recruiting me the hardest. They're getting some great players at different positions like Mike Paulus, and I heard about some receivers that they are recruiting, too.
"The coaching staff is in a great family atmosphere and that's something my family likes. Coach [Andre] Powell, the running back coach, he has my favorite hobby – fishing, I love to fish and hunt."
In addition to the Tar Heels, Maddox has narrowed down his list of 15 scholarship offers to Florida, Florida State, Georgia, and South Carolina. Maryland and N.C. State are schools "on the borderline," and still under consideration.
Maddox will narrow that list even further to five schools following this weekend. Prior to that, he will unofficially visit both UNC and N.C. State.
"I'll be at North Carolina Saturday and N.C. State Sunday," said Maddox. "I plan on spending Saturday night in Chapel Hill.
"I'm supposed to be going out with Barrington Edwards and Ronnie McGill. I'm supposed to be playing some PlayStation with some players. And talk to all the coaches again – Coach [John] Bunting and Coach [Frank] Cignetti."
On June 2nd from his high school auditorium, Maddox will announce his final decision.
In addition to the members of his favorites list, Maddox also sports scholarship offers from Auburn, Clemson, Duke, Kentucky, Louisville, LSU, Vanderbilt, and Virginia Tech.
A two-time all-conference selection, Maddox rushed 200 times for 1,328 yards and 26 touchdowns during his junior year at Anderson (S.C.) Hanna. He also added 740 yards and 17 touchdowns in receptions.
