Rivers 'Close' with UNC Staff

One of the top linebacker prospects from the state of North Carolina is Barquell Rivers from Wadesboro (N.C.) Anson High School. Rivers, 5-11 and 205 pounds, recorded 156 tackles, 14 tackles for a loss and 10 pass breakups last season playing WILL linebacker.

"I am good at reading the play and I have good instincts," said Rivers. "I tackle well and play sideline to sideline. This off-season I am working out and running. I am doing the basic drills, working on footwork, agilility and coverage skills."

Rivers also played basketball and baseball for his high school team.

According to Rivers he has 15 scholarship offers right now, including all of his favorites.

"I like North Carolina, Clemson, N.C. State, Florida State, Virginia, Virginia Tech and Florida.

"I am close with the coaches at UNC. They keep it real with me. I have also watched film with their coaches of their linebackers and I like how they work.

"I went to a game at Clemson last season and I love the atmoshere there. It was so loud you could not hear the person next to you.

"Florida State is a school with great football tradition and they really know how to develop linebackers.

"Virginia was one of the first schools to offer me and I like how they play defense.

"The same with Virginia Tech and they are one of the top programs in the nation.

"I like Urban Meyer at Florida. He seems to be a great guy.

"Right now I am open. I am looking at academics, tradition, facilities and for a place I know I can fit in at. I want to take all my visits so I probably will not make a decision until after the season."

Rivers said he would like to camp at Clemson, UNC, Florida, and Arizona State this summer.
