TOC: J.J. Hickson Q&A

CHAPEL HILL, N.C.--The World Wide Renegade AAU team emerged victorious in the first game of pool play in the 2006 Bob Gibbons Tournament of Champions behind 18 points from 2007 high school recruit J.J. Hickson. Shortly thereafter, Hickson discussed his recruitment with members of the media.

Tell us about your list of college choices.

Right now I'm wide open--really ACC, SEC, Big East, Big 10, and Big 12.

Is this your first time on Carolina's campus?

Nah, I came here last year.

What are your impressions?

It's a great school. It has a lot of history. It's a good place to go.

What are you looking for in a school?

Just my relationship with the coaches, how big of an impact I'm going to make on the team, and just the school atmosphere.

Do you care about going to a place where you will be THE guy early on, or do you want to go where there are some older guys to learn from?

Looking up to someone is always good so you have someone to push you to go harder, but of course I'd be lying if I said I didn't.

Didn't want to be the man?

Who is recruiting you the hardest right now?

It's all the same.

Can you name a list of schools who have offered you a scholarship?

I'm wide open.

But who has already offered you a scholarship?

I should be coming out with a list in a couple of weeks.

Have you had a chance to speak with Carolina's coaching staff?

I have seen them at a couple of games, but I haven't spoken with them.

Since you are here anyway, will you take an opportunity to look around some?

On the way up here I was looking around some, so yeah.

Have you had a chance to see the campus at all?

No, sir.

Do you plan to do that?

If I have time.

Who did you grow up liking--did you have a "dream school" so to speak that you would like to play for?

Not really a dream school. Like I said, I'm just trying to come in and make a big impact right away--seeing where I can get playing time right away.

Was there a school growing up that you really watched a lot or had a favorite?

Carolina. I grew up watching Carolina.

What do you feel you have to work on?

Taking my time, being patient, defending my man on the post, and just my ball handling.

What position do you see yourself as in college--a three, a four, a five?

Three, four, five.
