Heels Interested in McNeil

While the Shrine Bowl practice two weeks ago included plenty of talented tailbacks, Daronte McNeil showed that he was among the elite in attendance. The North Carolina coaches were among the observers who took notice.

"[The North Carolina coaches] were just watching me when I was there," said McNeil. "I thought I did well."

McNeil, a 6-foot-1, 233-pound tailback from Elizabeth City (N.C.) Northeastern, did well enough to land a scholarship offer from an SEC school shortly after the practice.

"Florida offered," said McNeil. "And I have Louisville, East Carolina, Virginia Tech, and Virginia."

Although the Tar Heels are missing from his offers list, North Carolina is very much interested in McNeil.

"[Coach Kenny Browning] talked about an offer and wanting me in camp," said McNeil. "They said if I were to come there, I could see time as a freshman there."

McNeil plans to include North Carolina among his camping stops, but hasn't decided when.

Not focused on recruiting, McNeil neglects to name any preferred schools.

"I don't have any [favorites] right now," said McNeil. "I'll make a decision by the end of football season this year coming up."

As a junior at Elizabeth City (N.C.) Northeastern, McNeil rushed for 2,521 yards and 31 touchdowns.
