Houston Ready to Announce

Those around Ryan Houston were telling him to take his time, to wait until the end of the summer so he has a chance to fully evaluate all the schools on his list. But Houston is now so sure of his decision that he's not willing to wait. He's made his decision and will announce his school of choice in a week.

"I just wanted to get it over with now," Houston told Inside Carolina on Saturday. "I'm not trying to wait. I don't want the school to offer another tailback."

Houston, a 6-foot-2, 255-pound tailback from Matthews (N.C.) Butler, holds scholarship offers from Clemson, Florida, Louisville, Marshall, Miami, FL, Michigan, NC State, North Carolina, Penn State, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and Virginia Tech. He was in Chapel Hill early last week for UNC's football camp.

"I'm going to commit next Saturday," said Houston. "I talked to my coach, he said ‘That's where you want to be at?' I said ‘Yeah.' I talked to my mom, she said ‘Ok, is that where you want to be at?' I said ‘Yeah.'"

Houston wouldn't tip his hand as to his school of choice, wanting to wait until the announcement to make his decision known – but he did outline why he chose the school.

"It's just everything," said Houston. "I can see the program rising, and I'm cool with all the coaches and players. I don't want to say too much, because I don't want to give it away."

Houston will be announcing live on one of ESPN's affiliates, but is still awaiting the full scheduling details.

As a junior at Matthews (N.C.) Butler High School, Houston rushed for 1,910 yards and 34 touchdowns earning All-Area honors.
