Heels Offer Searcy at Camp

New North Carolina commit William Brimfield wasn't the only camper this past weekend to receive a UNC scholarship offer. Shortly after participating in the Tar Heels' rising senior camp, DaNorris Searcy was extended an offer by the UNC coaching staff.

"It felt good [to get that offer]," said Searcy. "They liked what they saw out of me and made me the offer. They said to take my time [with committing], but keep them in mind."

Searcy, a 6-foot 195-pound athlete at Decatur (Ga.) Towers, also sports offers from Florida, Maryland, Georgia Tech, and Purdue.

Currently, Searcy, who is looking at a birthday decision [November 16th], states that Florida, LSU, and North Carolina make up his top three. His camping experience in Chapel Hill over the weekend certainly has helped put UNC in their current position.

"I like them," said Searcy. "I saw [during the camp] how [the coaching staff] communicated well together and how they work well together. I also like how they offered me [in person]."

During the Tar Heels' camp, Searcy, who is being recruited by coach Tommy Thigpen, worked out with the defensive backs and is being looked at for safety. A highlight of his weekend was being able to train with defensive coordinator Marvin Sanders.

"It was good working with the staff because I gained a lot of experience," said Searcy. "I liked [Sanders]. I liked all the tips he gave me at the defensive back position."

In July, Searcy will attend his final two college camps – Florida and LSU.

Searcy played tailback and rover linebacker last season at Towers HS. He was named to the first team all-county and all-state honorable mention on defense after totaling 48 tackles. He also rushed for 707 yards and seven touchdowns.
