Love Discusses Camp Rumors

HACKENSACK, N.J. --- No high profile recruitment is without its share of rumors. Kevin Love -- the nation's No. 2 prospect and North Carolina's top target in the rising senior class -- has seen some rumors follow him across the country to the ABCD Camp, which begins game play Thursday afternoon.

On Wednesday, as he arrived in New Jersey for the star-studded Reebok camp, ESPN's Andy Katz published a report that suggested an announcement from Love could be made during the camp.

Not true, according to Love.

"Definitely not," the Lake Oswego (Ore.) star said Thursday morning, after concluding his skill stations at the Rothman Center on the Farleigh Dickenson University campus.

"I have no idea [why ESPN reported that]," Love said. "I don't really know where it came from."

In fact, a decision from Love is likely still several months away. The most skilled post player in the high school ranks aims to choose between UCLA and North Carolina before his senior season begins.

"I want to do it by November," Love said. "I want to be stress free for my season and then I can go out and play my best basketball."

And when he does announce, it won't be at a shoe-affiliated event.

"I want to do a press conference back home when I [decide] - at my high school gym or auditorium," he said

Before then, he'll re-visit his two finalists to help him make his decision. Love said he still wants to take official visits to UNC and UCLA in the fall. Seeing as he's already visited both schools, why go again?

"Because there are certain things I want to find out," Love said. "Maybe I'll go to one of those places and not like the [players] as much. You never know what could happen. I'd like to be drowned in information before I make my decision."

But what about the other two main rumors surrounding his recruitment?

Is UCLA the frontrunner?

"Everybody thinks I'm going to be at UCLA, but they are two really good schools and it's hard to decide between the two," Love said. "I'm having a tough time right now."

Is the distance from the West Coast to Chapel Hill too far?

"Distance has nothing to do with my decision," Love replied. "North Carolina really reminds me a lot of Oregon."

Thursday afternoon the focus at ABCD will turn to on-court activities, as games begin, and Love looks to dominate the all-star camp for a second straight year.

When the time comes, Love thinks he'll know which school is right for him.

"It's just going to be a feeling," he explained. "It's going to be a tough decision. There are very few things that these two schools don't have. But it's a good decision to make - I can't go wrong either way."
