Sturdivant To Decide Soon

Quan Sturdivant returned Saturday from the individual camp in Chapel Hill, and while the 6-foot-3, 220-pound athlete from Oakboro (N.C.) West Stanly did not make a commitment to the Tar Heels, he did maintain his leader and now has a timeframe for his decision.

"It went well," Sturdivant said of his day at UNC. "I did not participate, but I did watch from the sidelines. I talked some to the other players like [Mike] Paulus, [Ryan] Houston, and Dwight Jones.

"I also talked to the coaches. They asked me when I thought I might commit and I told them in about two weeks. North Carolina is my leader."

Sturdivant's 40-yard sprints in the 4.5 to 4.6 range to accompany his 6-3, 220 frame has earned him offers from UNC, Florida, South Carolina, NC State and Duke.. The Carolina coaching staff is recruiting him as an athlete, but projects him to linebacker.

Sturdivant said he is unsure if he will take any other visits between now and his announcement date.

"I may go to South Carolina before I announce, I'm not sure," he said. "Two weeks is a ballpark figure. There is no specific date that I am looking at."

On his way to Conference Offensive Player-of-the-Year and All-Conference honors, Sturdivant completed 99-of-179 passes (55%) for 1,794 yards and 21 touchdowns, and rushed 111 times for 745 yards (6.7-yard average). On defense he accumulated 12 tackles (4 solo), an interception and two pass breakups.
