Dykes Eying Three

With his team participating in a passing tournament at Wake Forest this weekend, Mike Dykes and his Woodland Hills (Pa.) teammates decided to take the winding route to Winston Salem where the 6-foot-4, 265-pound OL was able to see some of the schools on his list.

"I took an unofficial trip to Duke and also North Carolina," Dykes said. "Those were great trips, and I learned a lot from both schools.

"I saw the facilities, Duke and North Carolina both have really nice facilities and I got to see the stadiums."

Dykes, who holds seven scholarship offers, also stopped to see West Virginia on the way down and plans to visit Virginia Tech Sunday on his way back. At the moment, three schools stand out.

"I'm looking at all of them, but I have a couple of top schools that catch my eyes," he said. "North Carolina definitely, Duke definitely, and another school that hasn't offered -- Virginia Tech -- I really like those three schools. They have great programs and their academics are high, too. That is what I care about the most, football is great, but academics is up there."

The combination of football and academics at all three schools, he said, make the choice tough for Dykes, so a decision is not as close as it once appeared.

"I would like to commit right before the season, that would be the ideal time for me."
