Culliver Again Trying to Get to the Hill

As fate would have it, North Carolina is once again part of the confusing situation known as Chris Culliver's recruitment. The three-star prospect called UNC coach Marvin Sanders with an off-topic question, but eventually restarted talks regarding a Chapel Hill visit.

"Two days ago, I was down in Florida and I decided to call [Coach Sanders] about a kid and we talked a little bit about Josh Oglesby," said Culliver. "I then was really talking to him about little things like how I'm going to get up to the school to see what they had to offer and stuff like that."

Culliver, a 6-foot-1 190-pound safety from Garner (N.C.), originally verbally committed to N.C. State, but has since softened the pledge after schools like Clemson, Florida, Florida State, and Virginia Tech came calling with a scholarship offer.

"I'm still a soft commit [to N.C. State]," said Culliver. "Right now, Clemson, [N.C.] State, and Florida and Virginia Tech are in that mix."

Before finalizing his decision, Culliver will take most – if not all – of his official visits.

"Sometime in September and October I'll take some [official] visits," said Culliver. "I'll probably take about two [visits] in September and evaluate those two and work my way. I'll probably have a decision by the end of October."

As of right now, Culliver isn't sure who those two schools will be.

Culliver was in Florida for a family vacation, but left the Sunshine State without sneaking in an unofficial visit to either Florida or Florida State. Up until the start of his senior season, Culliver is only planning to unofficially visit UNC.

During's All-American Combine, Culliver ran the day's best 40-yard dash time of 4.38 seconds.

As a junior, Culliver played strong safety where he totaled 127 tackles, seven sacks, and two interceptions.
