Sturdivant Down to Two

Nearly ready to make a commitment, Quan Sturdivant has set more of a solid timeframe in which to announce his decision. The 6-foot-3, 218-pound athlete from West Stanly High in Oakboro, N.C. is also down to just two schools.

"I'm down to Carolina and Florida, both of those teams are sticking out in my mind," Sturdivant said.

"Carolina has good coaching, and they are going in the right direction and Florida is just Florida, always winning."

Sturdivant plans to make a decision within "the next couple of weeks before the first game," which is against Central Cabarrus on August 19.

Heading into the announcement, Sturdivant said that his relationship with one coach is going to play a big role.

"Coach Brock at Carolina, he's cool," Sturdivant said. "I text him probably every night; he's the man. That's probably going to have a big effect on everything."

On his way to Conference Offensive Player-of-the-Year and All-Conference honors, Sturdivant completed 99-of-179 passes (55%) for 1,794 yards and 21 touchdowns, and rushed 111 times for 745 yards (6.7-yard average). On defense he accumulated 12 tackles (4 solo), an interception and two pass breakups.

However, he is ready to make the transition to defense in college.

"I'll probably play outside linebacker in college," Sturdivant said. "They are actually recruiting me as an athlete, but I just assume that they want me to play linebacker."
