Super Showcase: Dickey sidelined

ORLANDO - Ra'Sean Dickey's summer is over.

The 6-9, 240-pound rising junior tore ligaments in his left thumb earlier this summer and it got so bad that he had to sit out the AAU Super Showcase this week.

"I did it at a team camp last month and re-injured it in West Virginia on July 16," Dickey said. "I called my mother and asked her if I could play today (Wednesday), but she wouldn't let me. I called her this morning."

Without Dickey in the middle, Brandon Wallace was forced to adjust his role for the South Carolina Ravens, who were knocked out of pool play by the YOMCA (Tenn.) squad.

Dickey said he doesn't have a leader in the recruiting process, but did say that UNC is right up there. He also mentioned Tennessee, South Carolina, Iowa State, Maryland, Virginia, Florida and Stanford.

Dickey has been wearing a splint on his hand for the past week, but he will be able to shed it any day now. He'll wait until another appointment with a doctor before deciding whether he'll need surgery on the thumb.

The South Carolina Ravens left this morning to go back to South Carolina instead of opting to play at the AAU Nationals, which begin at Disney's Wide World of Complex tomorrow.
