With the graduation of Chacos and High following the 2006 season, tackle is the unit of focus along the offensive line for the 2007 recruiting class. The coaching staff will look to ink between 2-3 prospects with this class to fill holes and add depth to what will be a very young group heading into the 2007 season.

With the verbal commitments of Chris Gray and Lamar Milstead, UNC won't extend offers to any additional tackle prospects, but would welcome pledges from the likes of John Elliott or Thomas Edenfield. Overall, though, UNC is only looking to add one more offensive lineman.

Chris Gray
6'4" 240 lbs.
Landrum (S.C.) High School

Gray verbally committed to North Carolina less than a week after earning a UNC scholarship offer during the Tar Heels' July summer camp.

While at the camp, Gray showed an uncanny ability to play, with a good frame, always keeping the defender in front of him.

During his junior season at Landrum High School, Gray led his team in knock blocks and graded out higher than any of his teammates. Gray was named to the all-region team.

Lamar Milstead
6'5" 270 lbs.
Washington (D.C.) Ballou High School

A three-star prospect, Milstead is being recruited by Coach Tommy Thigpen for North Carolina.

After visiting UNC in June, Milstead named the Tar Heels his favorite and then committed in July over offers from Auburn, Boston College, Georgia, Maryland, Mississippi, NC State, Temple, and Virginia.

A raw talent, Milstead has a frame to add lots of weight and long arms that facilitate pass blocking. He's also very intelligent -- an important attribute often overlooked in offensive linemen.

As a junior at Washington (D.C.) Coolidge, Milstead received all-league honors, anchoring an offensive line that helped earn a 9-3 record and a berth in the Capitol area championship game.

Targets With Offers
Thomas Edenfield

6'5" 280 lbs. 5.90 Jacksonville (Fla.) Bartram Trail High School
Edenfield is expected to narrow down his list of favorites to five schools very soon and UNC is expected to make the cut. Florida State appears to be the biggest obstacle, but Edenfield is also strongly considering Auburn and South Carolina.

John Elliott

6'4" 285 lbs. 5.20 East Meadow (N.Y.) High School
Currently, Elliott lists Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, Rutgers, Boston College, North Carolina and Michigan as his final seven.

An excellent run blocker, Elliott plays with power and strength. He also possess great footwork.

This group will return for the 2007 season completely intact, but will lose two members the following season. To ease losses following the 2008 season, the coaching staff is considering a few position switches and will look to sign 1-2 prospects from the 2007 recruiting class.

UNC is likely done with recruiting guards, unless they can sign big-time prospect Stefen Wisniewski.

Mike Dykes
6'4" 265 lbs.
Pittsburgh (Pa.) Woodland Hills High School

Since North Carolina became the first school to extend him a scholarship offer, Dykes toyed with committing. A few weeks after taking a visit, Dykes selected UNC over Kentucky, Duke, Miami (Ohio) and others.

A three-star prospect, Dykes is a "quick, powerful and athletic" lineman, according to his head coach George Novak.

A three-year starter at Woodland Hills, Dykes earned all-conference recognition for his play along the offensive line as a junior.

Cameron Holland
6'3" 270 lbs.
Pittsburgh (Pa.) Perry Traditional High School

A three-star prospect, Holland came close to verbally committing to Pittsburgh, but decided to visit North Carolina first. A week later, Holland pledged to the Tar Heels.

Following his junior season at Perry Traditional Academy, Holland was named to the first team all-city and first team All-AAA teams.

Targets With Offers
Maurice Hampton

6'5" 295 lbs. 5.00 Hampton (Va.) Phoebus High School
Hampton is Virginia prospect who is interested in UNC, but will more than likely stay in-state. He is looking to make his first visit to Chapel Hill during the season -- possibly of the official variety.

Stefen Wisniewski

6'3" 275 lbs. 5.10 Pittsburgh (Pa.) Central Catholic High School
The number one offensive lineman on the Tar Heels' board, UNC joins Boston College, Michigan, and Penn State on Wisniewski's final four list. He may take an official visit to UNC on September 9th when the Tar Heels host Virginia Tech.

A smart lineman with an excellent pedigree, Wisniewski excels at both run blocking and in pass protection.

This group appears to be in solid shape, with only Lenahan leaving within the next two seasons, some underclassmen behind him and others players available for a position switch if needed. UNC will only add an elite center if possible to their 2007 recruiting class.

Targets With Offers
T-Bob Hebert

6'3" 260 lbs. 5.05 Atlanta (Ga.) Greater Atlanta Christian High School
Hebert is on the verge of mapping out his official visits and it appears that UNC will be on the outside looking in.

Hebert's best attributes are his mobility and competitive nature.
