Mullins Partially Cleared

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. --- North Carolina freshman defensive tackle Aleric Mullins has been cleared by the NCAA Clearinghouse to attend UNC and practice, but cannot play this season, John Bunting announced Thursday.

"He's been cleared to attend North Carolina and practice at North Carolina, but we have to wait a year for him to play," Bunting said. "It's a rule we didn't quite know about."

The 6-3, 285-pound native of Wendell, N.C. -- of the Tar Heels' top-rated signees in February -- will have three years of eligibility remaining and can earn a fourth year by meeting certain academic goals, Bunting explained.

Mullins has been practicing with the team, but was required to leave UNC once classes started this week in order to await the NCAA ruling. He can now return to practice.
