Watkins runs out of eligibility following this season, but LeCount Fantroy, a holdover from the 2006 recruiting class, joins the program in January.

For the most part, UNC is finished recruiting cornerbacks, but would not be opposed to adding an elite cornerback to their recruiting class.

LeCount Fantroy
5'11" 170 lbs. 4.50
New Berlin (N.Y.) Milford Prep Academy

Fantroy signed with UNC last February, but failed to fully qualify. He will prep at Milford Prep Academy and enroll at UNC in January 2007.

After earning a UNC scholarship offer from his performance during the Tar Heels' camp, Fantroy verbally committed to UNC.

A two-star recruit, Fantroy is a versatile athlete that played just about every skill-related position for his high school.

As a senior at Washington (D.C.) Ballou High School, Fantroy played quarterback, receiver, tailback, cornerback, safety, and returner. He was named to the All-Met team as a defensive back, and ended the season with five interceptions and ten total touchdowns.

Targets With Offers
Eric Berry

6'0" 190 lbs. 4.30 Fairburn (Ga.) Creekside High School
Berry has yet to establish a list of favorites, but holds scholarship offers from just about every school in the nation. He plans to name a top five soon, with UNC expected not to make the cut.

An amazing combination of size and speed, Berry's only negative is his lack of experience at the cornerback position.

Cris Hill
5'11" 165 lbs. 4.40 Highland Springs (Va.) High School
Hill's scholarship offers sheet stands at around ten schools, but he has yet to make a favorites list public. He has made a handful of visits, including a trip to UNC. The Tar Heels have not been prominently listed by Hill in recent interviews.

Tyrell Worthington

6'0" 185 lbs. 4.50 Winterville (N.C.) South Central High School
This summer Worthington concentrated solely on his baseball season and therefore hasn't developed a list of favorites. The only school he camped at or visited during the summer was UNC.

The UNC coaching staff is looking to sign 2-3 safeties this February. This unit will lose two players to graduation after the 2006 season and could use some depth.

Currently, North Carolina possesses verbal commitments from four safety prospects. One or two could potentially move to another position such as cornerback or linebacker.

This strong group of commitments and a quality corps of underclassmen, plustwo years of eligibility left for Trimane Goddard (who is sitting out 2006 with an injury), has the Tar Heels' future at safety looking very promising.

Emanuel Davis
5'11" 190 lbs. 4.50
Manteo (N.C.) High School

Davis landed a UNC scholarship offer after attending their June camp and impressing DC/DB coach Marvin Sanders. During the avalanche of verbal commitments the Heels received over the summer, Davis decided to make sure he wasn't left out.

A two-star recruit, Davis also held a scholarship offer from East Carolina, but fielded strong interest from N.C. State. High school coaches in the region highlight Davis as an underrated prospect.

Although raw in man coverage, Davis is dynamite when it comes to delivering the hit and excellent in run support.

During his junior season, Davis played tailback, quarterback, outside linebacker, and safety. He earned all-conference honors after accumulating over 2,000 yards rushing and being among the team leaders in tackles. He is also a standout in basketball and track.

Fonterrian Ingram
5'10" 185 lbs. 4.50
Atlanta (Ga.) McNair High School

Ingram attended both of UNC's individual camps, but didn't leave with an offer until after the July camp. Upon receiving the offer, Ingram committed.

Although speed and athleticism are the attributes that stand out, Ingram has the instincts and tackling ability of a linebacker.

During his junior season, Ingram played running back, safety, and linebacker. He accumulated 77 tackles (54 solo), including 11 for a loss and five sacks.

DaNorris Searcy
6'0" 195 lbs. 4.50
Decatur (Ga.) Towers High School

Along with fellow Georgia native Ingram, Searcy attended both of UNC's individual camps. However, he was extended a scholarship offer following the June camp. He then joined Ingram in committing to UNC following the July camp.

Virginia Tech, Florida, and LSU had also extended scholarship offers to Searcy, but he "got a feeling" while at Chapel Hill.

Searcy, a four-star recruit, could play many positions at the next level, but UNC would like to keep this speedster at safety. He plays with the speed of a cornerback but the headhunting mentality of a linebacker.

During his junior season, Searcy earned first team all-county and all-state honorable mention for his play at rover linebacker. He also played tailback where he rushed for 707 yards and seven touchdowns.

Jonathan Smith
6'2" 195 lbs. 4.50
Durham (N.C.) Hillside High School

Two days after being extended a scholarship offer from UNC assistant coach Tommy Thigpen, Smith verbally committed to North Carolina. Prior to that, he was verbally offered by Nebraska and garnered interest from most ACC schools.

Although Smith plays linebacker in high school, the three-star prospect's coverage skills and athletic ability translate well to safety. He has excellent tackling skills and plays well in traffic.

As a junior at Hillside High School, Smith recorded 95 tackles, 15 tackles for a loss, and four sacks.

Targets With Offers
Morgan Burnett

6'2" 190 lbs. 4.55 College Park (Ga.) North Clayton High School
Although he holds scholarship offers from just about every program in the nation, Burnett has yet to establish a list of favorites.

Chris Culliver

6'1" 190 lbs. 4.35 Garner (N.C.) High School
Culliver burst onto the scene after dominating in combines. A de-committment from N.C. State, UNC is pursuing him hard, but needs to get him on campus in order to have a legit shot. Culliver's offers list includes Alabama, Clemson, East Carolina, Florida, Florida State, UNC, N.C. State, and Wake Forest.

The first thing that stands out is Culliver's blazing straight line speed. However, he also excels in being able to stay in the hip pocket of wide receivers during one-on-one coverage.
