EDITORIAL STAFF

Buck Sanders

While Buck has been dubbed the "unassuming wizard behind the curtains," as the president of Inside Carolina (which he acquired in 2001 after years of running The Tar Pit), he also oversees the football side of the web site and files reports on the gridiron Heels. He's a staff writer for the IC magazine. (Email Buck)

Ben Sherman

Ben created and maintained UNCbasketball.com for six years, earning recognition from ESPN as the most popular college hoops site on the Internet, before merging with Inside Carolina in the summer of 2001. He is the basketball editor of the IC site and the editor-in-chief of the magazine. Ben also had an editorial position at the ACC Handbook for three years (2000-2002). (Email Ben)

J.B. Cissell

J.B. joined Inside Carolina in the late summer of 1998 after a short stint as a contributor to UNCbasketball.com. He is a jack of all trades: writer/reporter, photographer, managing editor, columnist. Currently, he serves as assistant editor for the magazine and administrator of the web site and message boards. Tommy Ashley

Tommy began with Inside Carolina in the fall of 1998. He has performed roles of writer/reporter and managing editor. Currently, he serves as assistant editor for the magazine and columnist and administrator of the web site and message boards. (Email Tommy)

Andy Britt

Andy, IC's most productive writer, covers the football and basketball beat, coordinates football recruiting and a monthly contributor to the magazine. He is approaching 20 years of experience as a sportswriter and TV production assistant in and around the ACC. His work has appeared in such newspapers as The News & Observer, The Chapel Hill News, The State, The Seattle Times, The Houston Chronicle and The Sun-Sentinel, among others. (Email Andy)

Michelle Hillison

After playing an integral role at UNCbasketball.com as asst. editor/producer, Michelle now has a variety of duties at IC. She is the editor of the women's hoops section, is the site's graphics and design ace and helps out in other areas. Outside of IC, she is currently a regional editor of iHigh.com. (Email Michelle)

Jim Hawkins

Jim is in his second year as the Inside Carolina photo editor, shooting events for the magazine and web site. He has been photographing ACC sporting events for over two decades, beginning as a free lancer for the Winston-Salem Journal in 1977. His employers have included the Sports Information offices at Wake Forest, Duke and UNC. In addition, he was the staff photographer for the ACC Basketball Handbook for 12 years (1981-1993) and he was one of the key photo contributors for the UNC and NCSU National Championship books published in 1982, 1983 and 1993.

Jeff Goodman

When Jeff's not busy freelancing for the likes of the USA Today, Washington Post and Boston Globe, he's reporting on Tar Heel basketball recruits for IC. His former work has included being a national sportswriter for the AP in NYC and senior editor of School Sports. He covers Tar Heels in the professional ranks for the IC magazine.

Mike McCracken

Mike is a senior writer, beginning his 7th year as a reporter and columnist with Inside Carolina. His contributions of late have been columns for the web site and editorials for the magazine. A Raleigh native and lifelong Tar Heel, Mike is a professional fundraiser and small business owner in Birmingham, Ala. (Email Mike)

Mark Simpson-Vos

Mark pens a weekly column at IC on Tuesdays during the season and contributes to the site's game coverage and the magazine's feature stories. He also has articles now and then in the magazine. Mark grew up in Big Ten country, but moved to Chapel Hill for keeps a decade ago. His full-time gig is in publishing and he debuted as a freelancer in 1998 with postgame commentary at UNCbasketball.com. (Email Mark)

Thad Williamson

Thad has elevated into an elite category of respected Carolina basketball columnists and we are proud and honored that he resides at Inside Carolina. He is is the author of More Than a Game: Why North Carolina Basketball Means So Much To So Many (available HERE) and has provided his "Thoughts" at IC for years. A Chapel Hill native, he operated the manual scoreboard formerly located at the end of the UNC bench between the 1982-83 and 1987-88 seasons in Carmichael and the Smith Center. While providing analysis for the site and magazine, Thad is currently finishing up his graduate degree at Harvard University. (Email Thad)

RECRUITING STAFF

Mark Ellington

Mark helps keep tabs on the players on the Carolina recruiting board. He interviews prospects for the site and helps cover the gridiron high school scene for the magazine. Mark gew up outside of Greensboro and served for six years in the U.S. Navy. He has been with IC for over two years.

Clint Jackson

IC's Richmond-based hoops recruiting analyst, is the former publisher of High Major Hoops, a highly regarded national recruiting web site. He has also written for such publications as CNNSI, The Sporting News, SLAM Magazine and FOX Sports. Clint is also IC's ad sales rep for the site and magazine. (Email Clint)

Tom Perrone

Tom heads the football side of the site's efforts in game and recruiting videos. One of the original founders of The Tar Pit, he started and operated Prep Atlantic Recruiting for four years before joining back up with Buck and the rest of the crew at the new IC digs. His son, Trey, contributes graphics and design skills to the site. (Email Tom)

Miller Safrit

In his first year with the TheInsiders.com network, ACC recruiting analyst Miller Safrit is quickly becoming one of the respected names in the recruiting circles of the region. Safrit comes to the company after reporting on recruiting with PrepAtlantic in 2000 followed by starting independent site ACPreps.com in the spring of 2002. He currently resides in Raleigh and focuses on recruiting in the ACC region. (Email Miller)

Dave Telep

Simply put, Dave Telep is the most respected recruiting analyst and high school scout among college basketball coaches. The Raleigh native started with Prep Stars and the Recruiter's Handbook in 1997 and has since worked for Rivals, CNNSI, The Sporting News and the ACC Handbook before joining TheInsiders network in 2001. Telep also runs the nation's top high school scouting service and is a voting member of the McDonald's All-American Game.
