With both starting kicker and punter graduating in the next two years, his department needs to be addressed with the 2007 recruiting class.

UNC landed their number one target -- Jay Wooten. A strong legged kicker, Wooten will come in as a punter and kickoff specialist, but could eventually hold field goal duties.

A few weeks after LSU offered, Wooten received a UNC scholarship offer. The UNC coaching staff said they needed an answer quickly, and Wooten verbally committed a few days later.

With his strong leg, Wooten could hold down any kicking position.

A starter since his freshman year, Wooten converted 8-of-13 field goals during his junior season. He also kicked 70-percent of his kickoffs for touchbacks. In his first year punting, he landed 19 inside the 20-yard line.
