A noticeable omission is Powell's former leader and childhood favorite North Carolina.
"Me and Coach [Greg] Watford went over the whole situation and I can't even count how many times I've been to UNC," said Powell. "I've been there so many times [that] I've already seen most of the campus. I want to go to these schools; I've never been to these schools [because] they're harder to get to [than North Carolina]."
In addition to attending North Carolina's three-day individual camp in June and their one-day individual camp in July, Powell has attended both the Rutgers and Virginia Tech games in Chapel Hill the past two weekends.
Powell, a 6-foot-4 295-pounder from Ahoskie (N.C.) Hertford Count, has only informed Penn State of his recent recruiting developments, but plans to call the four remaining schools during his lunch Friday.
Coaches from North Carolina are scheduled to be in Rocky Mount (N.C.) Friday to watch Powell. He plans to inform the coaches then of his decision.
Of the five planned visits, only an Oct. 14 trip to Penn State has been scheduled.
Powell continues to dominate on Friday nights as his Hertford County squad is undefeated with a 4-0 record. Last Friday against Rocky Mount (N.C.) Northern Nash, Powell totaled 12 tackles and two and a half sacks.
