Heels Increasing Interest in Davis

A handful of college coaches checked in junior Ed Davis at Richmond (Va.) Benedictine this past week. Among the list of coaches in attendance to see the prospect ranked No. 4 in the Class of 2008 by Scout.com, was the Tar Heels' head man.

"Roy Williams came up I think on Wednesday, so I got to talk to him," Davis said. "He just told me to keep working and get better and talked to me about North Carolina."

While the Tar Heels have made an impression on the 6-8, 195-pounder they weren't the only school to travel to Richmond. Virginia, Arkansas, Georgetown and North Carolina State watched him work out as well. Three of those five that saw are in his latest top five.

"It changes and it's not like they are really ahead but if I had to give a top five it would be UVa, Georgetown, North Carolina, UConn and then Virginia Tech," Davis said.

Davis already holds scholarship offers from Virginia, Arkansas, Georgetown, Connecticut and Virginia Tech. Has Carolina offered?

"They haven't officially offered, but they are recruiting me hard," Davis explained.

The next step for North Carolina in Davis' recruiting process is to get him to unofficially visit Chapel Hill. Davis and Williams discussed that this past week.

"I think I'll be going down there for a football or basketball game," Davis said.

The athletic and assertive post player said he doesn't expect to make a decision this year, adding that he is looking to play in a major conference and at a school that will fit his style.

"I just like an up-tempo style and I like conferences like the ACC and Big East," he said. "I just like the style of game they play.

"As far as a school [I'm looking for] a good coach and also I'll look at the players they are bringing in and who they already have there."
